They linger in favourite scenes, characters readers can’t stop thinking about, and the feeling of closing a book knowing part of you stayed behind.
We collaborate with authors to turn those stories into fragrance.
Each fragrance is custom developed and hand blended to feel like an extension of your world. Something readers can light, revisit, and return to.
A story they can hold.
A world they can breathe in.
This isn’t choosing from a fragrance list.
HOW WE CREATE
Every collaboration starts differently.
Sometimes we read the book first. Sometimes it starts with your voice notes (we love a yap), Pinterest boards, playlists and half finished notebook scribbles.
From there, every fragrance is developed and hand blended by Dani, founder of Bound & Burned.
There's no rigid formula behind the process. It’s immersive, instinctive, and usually involves hours spent eyes closed, chasing a feeling until it finally turns into fragrance.
No two collaborations look exactly the same. We simply stay in your story until the scent feels like it belongs there.
Once you submit an enquiry, we’ll send through our Collaboration Form.
This is where we get into the good stuff! Your book, characters, themes, aesthetics, favourite scenes, reader reactions, and anything else you think helps us understand the world we’re stepping into.
From there, we begin fragrance development and create three sample candles to send to you. Once they arrive, you can experience each one in your own space and choose the fragrance that feels most like your story.
Once your fragrance is approved, final candles move into production.
A $100 NZD Collaboration Fee secures your project and covers the beginning of the process. Including fragrance development, blending, sample creation, and refinement through to final scent approval.
Once approved, candles are produced as a separate wholesale order.
Opening orders begin at 6 candles, with production pricing shared before we begin so you can plan quantities and retail pricing ahead of time.
There is no reorder minimum.
Your fragrance remains exclusive to your book and is kept available for future production whenever you need it for launches, events, signings, or restocks.
Please allow approximately 3 weeks for fragrance development, pouring and curing of sample candles.
Once your fragrance and labels are approved, final production takes approximately 3 weeks, plus delivery time.
Shipping for sample candles is included as part of your development process. Production shipping applies as standard.
Just a quick note: We only take on a limited number of collaborations at a time to make sure every project gets the attention, creative space and slightly obsessive level of fragrance development it deserves.
